25 Days till First 5K

Count down is on and since 2/27 I have now logged 11.2 miles running and 6 miles walking. On Sunday I logged 3.2 mile run that took me a rough 37 minutes. It will get better I know this!!! On a mission to cut that time down to ten minute miles.

Laundry done the Homemade way

Yep that’s right I no longer buy Tide or Downy products!!!! And I am super happy about this change in my monthly budget. Both of the recipes for these items can be found at www.threesavvymoms.com or anywhere on Pinterest for that matter.

The Laundry Detergent was one that I was super excited to try. We spent a Ginormous amount of money on laundry soap and I also have the front load washing machine so I was very curious to find out how this would work since it is a powder. And the results are……………………..(drum roll please)…………………… FANTASTIC!!!! I really could not be happier!!! By first grating and then running the Fels-Naptha bar soap thru a food processor I have had zero problems with any of the soap “gunking” up my soap dispenser on my washing machine. And did I mention I made enough soap to last me several months for only 15.61!! That’s practically what I would spend normally on one bottle of Tide HE detergent!

Next on my list of “homemade” items to try was the Fabric Softener. You see I’m a Downy freak, April Fresh Downy to be precise. Well again I am very impressed with how the product turned out. I bought my Conditioner and Vinegar at Dollar Tree. I made a half batch to start with, just to make sure I liked it and I did!!! There is no vinegar smell to your clothes so please do not worry!!! And sorry I was a little on the lazy side with my label, at least my husband found it funny!

Homemade Body Wash

Thanks to Pinterest so many of us have jumped on board the "homemade train" and I'm one if those that's climbed on board. So last night I made the homemade bodywash, cost $3.68 for three bars of Dove Soap. That's it less than four bucks, three bars of soap, six cups water and I have body wash for a couple months, compared to $5-6 bucks a bottle normally.

1. Grate your soap with a cheese grater.
2. Melt/dissolve soap in six cups of water on medium heat. It will become very frothy.
3. Once soap has melted/dissolved pour into glass containers, cover and let sit over night. It will thicken as it cools to the perfect consistency.
4. The next day, pour into your containers. Sorry mine are a little plain :-)

Absolutely love the results!!!

Began 5k Training

I have committed to my first 5k run, March 31st South Grand Lake Lions Dam Fun Run!! Began a five week training program this evening. I have already been running & exercising so this training program shouldn't completely wipe me out, I hope anyway. Still continuing doing Insanity on Tuesdays & Thursday as well as lifting on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If all of this doesn't help me get back in shape don't know what will!

Vacation.....only 1 week away

Well this time next week we will be on the road to Red River, NM.  Going on our first Ski/Snowboarding trip.  We are all extremely excited, the boys more so than I am for a couple of reasons, I'll get into those in a moment.  We are going with a group of friends, for some this is their second trip, others are like us and newbies.  We will be staying at the Auslander Condominiums in a four bedroom unit that thankfully has two bathrooms.  My understanding is that it is a "twelve hour drive" (Gilligan's Island theme song playing in my head now)  We plan to leave on Wednesday morning or afternoon, that has not been officially set in stone yet, drive as far as we can, get a hotel room, and finish the drive on Thursday morning.  Our plan is to ski all day Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, then get up at the crack of dawn and drive home on Sunday.  Needless to say Monday will be killer day back at work and school!
So back to the aforementioned reasons I'm not as excited as the boys about this vacation.  Now don't get me wrong I think we will have loads of fun, but this was not my first pick for a vacation.  See I prefer the beach, sand between my toes, music, a nice drink, food on the grill or at the cabana..... you see I like warm weather.  I'm a flip-flops and shorts kinda girl.  I'm most happy during the summer months chilling on the back of the boat reading a good book working on my overall complexion!  But alas, I was out voted and we are going to be sticking our toes in ski boots and snowboard boots, bundling up in a multiple layers, and praying we don't fall.....wait wait I take that back.....praying I DO NOT FALL!!
Which brings me to reason number two that the boys are more excited about this trip than I am.  Two weekends ago we made a quick trip to Kansas City, MO to Snow Creek.  And I came home with a bruised tail bone.  You see I let a few friends convince me that Snowboarding wouldn't be that hard because we all used to wakeboard.  Well let me tell you that was not my brightest moment, jumping on that snowboard, gliding around for all of five minutes (gliding: one foot straped in the boot and pushing yourself with the other foot) thinking "O I've got this" or "Nothing to it" were not thoughts that should have went through my head.  I should NOT have gotten on that lift or I should have rode that lift like a merry-go-round and got right back off where I had that first thought of "O I've got this!"
Getting down that hill was pure torture!!!  First of all I ran smack dab into the only pole!!!  FOR REAL!!  I did this!!  While one of my friends lay flat on her back laughing hysterically at me, I managed to scoot away from the pole and try to get back up on the board.  This did not go well!  I could not for the life of me figure out how to get up on that board.  Finally I decided to get up backwards and that worked, well all except for now I was facing the wrong way and my board was moving!!!  HOLY COW!!!  Lets just say in the end my friends left me and went on snowboarding and skiing and I managed to get off that hill alone.  And yes there was an easier path to take but I did not take it.  I took the path that was thte hardest simply because it was closet to the Lodge!!!
